I've always been a fan of fixed-plier tools, from the Coast Pocket Mechanic to the Wenger Mini Grip. This new entry intrigued me so I had to buy it. First off, it feels good in my hands. It reminds me very much of the original ZillaTool. The thumb lock for the spring-loaded pliers is convenient and well-placed, and easy to use. The spring action of the pliers is relatively smooth, though it catches slightly on an indention on the back of the tool, which seems put there specifically to make the action less smooth. (why?). The jaws are well-formed, the teeth mesh, and the tips come together well enough to pull out an arm hair. However, the pliers have significant side-to-side play at the tips. If I grasp the handle and the body of the tool in separate hands I can wiggle the pliers in the tool quite easily. They rock back and forth. This appears to be due to using small washers as spacers instead of larger diameter fender washers, but I won't be sure until I disassemble it. Simply tightening the pivot screw did not fix the problemThe wire cutters work well, they cut stranded copper wire (even pretty thin stuff) and all sizes of zip ties, so that's a very good thing. The tools are a mixed bag. They all have nice nail nicks except the phillips screwdriver, which is difficult to extract. The main blade is sharp, and the saw effective, if short. The serrated blade combo tool has a flat head driver on the tip, a nicely aggressive file on one side, and then a serrated edge. The serrated blade IMO is a waste, but it is sharp enough to cut paracord. Each tool locks, which was unexpected! It took a few uses before the tools locked reliably, but they do now and that's a nice bonus. The lock is easy to disengage too, and intuitive to use. But not all is good with the tools. The worst tool of the bunch is the one I had the most hopes for. The phillips driver is a sad, sad tool. It's a very small, poorly-formed phillips driver. The tool has no nail nick, and so is difficult to extract. The driver isn't very well formed, and I don't trust it for any kind of torque. The tool twists a bit, but mostly the head just slips out of screws and rounds itself off. I've attached a pic showing the screwdriver tool compared to a Gerber MP600 and two different swiss army knives for scale. It's tiny. So to make this perfect, they need to:Fix the play in the pliersMake the phillips driver bigger and well-formedAdd 1/4 inch to the saw (there's room)
